A patient sits down, points to a cracked tooth, and says, ‘I need this fixed without losing another week.’ That is the real request behind same day crowns elk grove. People do not want a temporary, a second numbing, or another afternoon off work.
I am Dr. Theodore Ionescu. In our office on E Stockton Blvd, I look at the tooth, the bone, and the bite before I promise a crown. A crown is a cap that holds the remaining tooth together. It does not fix a root problem or gum disease.
A crown is not the first thing I jump to. Sometimes a broken tooth only needs a filling or an onlay. If I can save tooth structure without reducing the whole tooth, I will tell you.
Scan, design, mill, seat. You leave with the real crown.
Nothing to pop off on a weekend or interrupt your flossing.
Digitally designed against the opposing teeth, not eyeballed.
A cracked tooth stops flexing the day you come in.
A back tooth with a large filling is already compromised. The walls are thinner than they look on an x-ray. Every bite pushes them apart. A crown wraps those walls and takes the load as a unit.
I recommend a crown when the remaining tooth is too weak to hold a filling. The crown covers the tooth above the gumline. It does not replace bone or gum attachment. If those are the bigger problem, I address them with periodontal treatments before I shape the tooth.
The crown is custom. It fits the prepared tooth, not a stock shape. I check the margins, the contact, and the bite before I bond it.
The temporary is the part patients hate most. In the old process, a patient would come through our general dental services team twice for one crown. You left with a plastic cap and a waiting period of two or three weeks.
The temporary can pop off at dinner. It can let the tooth shift. Then we numb you a second time, remove the temporary, and seat the lab crown. It is a lot of appointments for one tooth.
A same-day crown removes most of that risk. There is no temporary to lose and no second dose of local anesthetic.

I start with a digital scan instead of a tray of impression material. Sarah or Leticia will set up the room and keep you comfortable. The scan maps the prepared tooth, the teeth next to it, and the opposing bite.
I, Dr. Ionescu, design the CAD/CAM crown on screen and mill it in the office. Then I try it in, adjust the contact and the bite, and bond it. The tooth is protected before the numbness wears off.
A same-day crown is not the answer for every front tooth. If the tooth shows when you smile and needs layered translucency, I may send the case to the lab. The lab technician can stack porcelain in a way a single milled block cannot always match.
I also choose a lab crown for some implant cases and for patients with severe wear. The honest call is the one that fits the tooth, not the one that fits the schedule.

The fee depends on the tooth, the material, and how your plan pays. Erin will check your benefits before we start. If you do not have insurance, she can walk you through our dental savings club and CareCredit options.
Our financial information page lays out the club and financing in plain terms. I want you to know the cost before you commit, not after the crown is seated.
Extraction is cheaper today. The problem is the space. Teeth drift, the bone shrinks, and chewing shifts. A crown preserves a root that is still worth saving.
If the root cannot be saved, I talk through dental implants as a replacement. An implant takes longer and costs more up front, but it replaces the root. I do not recommend a crown on a tooth that will fail in a year.
Block out about two hours at our office on E Stockton Blvd. The scan takes a few minutes. The design and mill take longer, and I will come in to check the fit once the crown is cut.
I, Dr. Ionescu, spend more time on the bite because that determines comfort. Sarah or Leticia will keep you comfortable, and Erin or Alyssa will have the estimate clear before you leave.
A crown is a long-term repair, not a lifetime guarantee. Brush it like the rest of the tooth. Floss the edges daily, because that is where crowns fail.
Patients who control clenching and keep regular exams tend to get the most years. I do not promise a number. Bite force, home care, and luck all play a role.
We confirm the tooth is restorable before anything is prepared.
Numb, reshape, and capture a digital impression in minutes.
The crown is designed chairside against your bite and adjacent teeth.
Ceramic is milled, stained, glazed, and fitted in the same appointment.
Bite verified, cemented, and photographed before you leave.

Dr. Theodore Ionescu has practiced in Elk Grove for more than twenty years and works from the office on E Stockton Blvd. He plans the treatment himself, which means the person who quotes the work is the person in the room when it happens. Will a same-day crown feel different from a lab crown?
The fit should feel the same. I adjust the bite and contacts before I bond it. Some patients notice the tooth feels smoother at first because there is no temporary to compare it to. That usually settles within a day or two.
Does the same-day process hurt?
I numb the tooth before I start. You may feel pressure from the scan and the mill, but not the preparation. Soreness afterward is usually mild and fades in a few days. Take whatever you normally use for a headache if you need it, and call us if the bite feels high.
Will insurance cover a same-day crown in Elk Grove?
Most plans cover a crown under major restorative benefits. Coverage depends on your deductible, annual maximum, and whether the plan distinguishes same-day from lab crowns. Erin will verify the numbers before we begin and give you a clear estimate. No surprises.
How long does a same-day crown take?
Plan for about two hours in the office. The actual chair time is shorter because the scan, design, and mill are done in stages. I spend the extra time on bite adjustment and fit. That part cannot be rushed. The goal is one visit, not one hurry.
How long will a same-day crown last?
A crown is a long-term repair, not a lifetime guarantee. Patients who floss the edges, control clenching, and keep regular exams tend to get the most years. I do not promise a number because bite force and home care differ from patient to patient.
Do I need a referral for a same-day crown?
No referral is needed. Call our Elk Grove office and describe what you feel. Erin or Alyssa will book the exam, and I will decide after looking at the tooth. The same-day path only starts once I know the root and surrounding gum are firm enough.
